Leading this congregation is Reverend Leon B. Morehead, the sixth pastor in the church’s rich history. He assumed this role on June 26, 2022. Before joining New Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend Morehead was a lifelong member and Executive Minister of Greater New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. His spiritual journey began under the guidance of Reverend Dr. Benjamin L. Hooks and Reverend Robert Joe Page. It continued with Pastor Reverend Kenneth James Flowers. Reverend Morehead delivered his first sermon in May 2007. He served as Youth Minister, connecting with youth and families. In May 2016, he became Executive Minister of Greater New Mount Moriah. He held this position until he accepted the call to lead New Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
Reverend Morehead’s educational background includes a degree in Biblical Studies from Rochester University. He also holds a degree in Family Life Education from Great Lakes Christian College. His passion for community upliftment is evident in his involvement with educational advisory boards and nonprofit organizations. He has also spoken across the country on various topics. In 2016, he spoke at The White House for the My Brother’s Keeper initiative. Reverend Morehead and his wife, Maleika, have been married since 2002. They have two children, Leon Jr. and Moriah. New Grace Missionary Baptist Church, under Reverend Morehead’s leadership, continues its mission of spreading hope and fostering spiritual growth. It is a place where faith and community intertwine.
