“Gloryland” – a fitting name, wouldn’t you say? Right here stands New Gloryland Baptist Church, a beacon of faith nestled in the heart of New Orleans. The story of New Gloryland Baptist Church begins not in a grand hall, but a humble tent. Picture the year 1951, June 29th to be exact, in the brand-new Byrd Station Subdivision. Eighteen souls gathered under that canvas, their hearts set on establishing a place of worship. Among them were names you might recognize from the church’s history – Billie Corbin, Abner Armstrong, and the church’s first pastor, Reverend Edward W. Brown. Their vision became reality, and New Gloryland Baptist Church was born. The spirit of those early days, that drive to build something lasting, it’s woven into the very fabric of New Gloryland Baptist Church. The congregation thrived, eventually moving from the tent to a dedicated church building in 1958. Over the decades, New Gloryland Baptist Church continued to grow, expanding its reach and deepening its roots within the community. Today, New Gloryland Baptist Church stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith, community, and a little bit of that New Orleans spirit.
