Have you ever felt the warmth of a welcoming community? The New Covenant Church in Port Vila stands as a testament to faith and resilience. This church isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant hub of spiritual life in the heart of Vanuatu.

The New Covenant Church’s story begins long ago. Early missionaries faced incredible challenges. They arrived in the New Hebrides islands with little more than their faith. They didn’t speak the local language Bislama. They lacked Bibles and hymnals translated into the local tongue. Their mission president was hundreds of miles away in Fiji. Despite these difficulties the Church flourished.

These early missionaries worked tirelessly. They rented a small tin house for Sunday services. They tracked down families previously baptized by Tongan missionaries. They organized themselves into branch leadership roles. Elder Strother became branch president. Elder Kenyon oversaw the Primary children. Elder Hampshire led the Young Men and Young Women. Elder Simpson was called to serve over the Relief Society.

Their biggest challenge was learning Bislama. The Primary children became their most effective teachers. The missionaries translated scriptures and stories the best they could. By the time their missions ended about seventy members regularly attended services.

Despite setbacks like government visa restrictions and even expulsion of non-native missionaries the Church continued to grow. Faithful local members shared the Gospel with their friends and neighbors. One remarkable story involves Elder Kenyon blessing a sick woman. Her rapid recovery moved a lay minister from another church to join the New Covenant Church. This new convert went on to teach hundreds more.

Another compelling story features Henry Willy. He recognized Church President Spencer W Kimball from a dream. This vision spurred him to join the Church. He became a dedicated member and brought many others to the faith. The New Covenant Church demonstrates how faith can overcome obstacles. It showcases the power of community and resilience. It stands as a symbol of hope and spiritual growth in Vanuatu.
