A small group of just 27 believers came together. Their shared dream was to build a spiritual home. That dream took root, and the church began to grow. The New Christian Liberty Church first found a home on Russell Street. As the congregation expanded, they moved to Garfield Street in 1940. Their journey continued to a larger sanctuary on Russell Street in 1944. Finally, in 1953, the New Christian Liberty Church found its current home on Fischer Street. Over 100 cars formed a motorcade to celebrate the move. This demonstrated the church’s growing presence in the community. The New Christian Liberty Church has been guided by several dedicated pastors. One notable figure is J.B. Coates, who served from 1941 to 1944. After a long search, Dr. Maurice Stimage Jr. became the fourth pastor in 2008. The church’s motto, taken from Isaiah 41:10, reflects its enduring spirit: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.” The New Christian Liberty Church continues to serve Detroit, a beacon of faith and community.
