How long does it take to build a bedrock of faith? For the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, the answer is a century in the making. Right now, you might be looking at a modern, thriving church. But close your eyes for a moment and imagine a humble beginning back in 1921. The New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church started not in a grand building, but in the cozy home of Mrs. Leola Fisher. It was a testament to the idea that faith can blossom anywhere, even in the most unassuming places. The church has seen numerous leaders guide its congregation, each leaving their own unique mark. Rev. B.F. Ballard oversaw the construction of the very first church building, a physical embodiment of their growing congregation. There were others too – Rev. T.T. Wallace, Rev. Frank Edwards, Rev. Eddie Prophet, Rev. McLeod, and Rev. R. J. Lewis – all instrumental in nurturing the flame of faith in those early years. These weren’t just names, they were the architects of a community. Their dedication paved the way for what the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church is today.
