Standing before New Beginnings Community Baptist Church, a sense of tranquil history washes over you. This imposing building, a beacon of faith on Bridge Street, has witnessed generations of Philadelphians seeking solace and guidance. Though its foundation is rooted in the past, its spirit pulses with the vibrant energy of the present.
The church’s roots run deep through the vibrant tapestry of the city. This particular location was, in its earlier years, home to Second Baptist Church, Frankford, under Reverend Dr. George N. Kenner. Reverend Kenner, a guiding light for many, mentored a young man by the name of Kevin B. Williams, Sr. From his childhood, Kevin was deeply immersed in the church, serving in various capacities, from singing in the Children’s Choir to leading the Youth Group.
During his time at the Second Baptist Church, Kevin’s dedication to the church grew. He served with humility and purpose, holding positions on the Trustee board, becoming a Deacon, and offering guidance as a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher. Kevin felt a calling; he wanted to share his knowledge and love for the Word of God.
New Beginnings Community Baptist Church was a culmination of Kevin’s life’s journey and a testament to his unwavering commitment to spreading the word. In July 2009, after much prayer and contemplation, Kevin answered the call to shepherd God’s children. On December 6, 2009, he preached his first sermon as pastor of New Beginnings Community Baptist Church.
Today, the church continues to be a pillar of the community, offering a haven for all who seek spiritual guidance. It is a place where faith is nurtured, and the spirit of generosity flourishes. As you stand before the church, you catch a glimpse of its enduring legacy, a legacy that continues to shape lives and inspire hope for the future.
