What secrets lie buried beneath our feet? Right here, in Neve David, we uncover layers of history dating back millennia. Don’t let the modern facade fool you, Neve David stands as a testament to Haifa’s ancient past. Established in 1951 as a transit point and later developed in 1956, Neve David holds within its boundaries traces of human existence stretching back 8,000 years. Imagine a time when the sea lapped at the edges of this very neighborhood. An underwater survey revealed the remnants of a Neolithic settlement submerged beneath the waves due to rising sea levels. This settlement, known as Kfar Samir, predates even the pyramids of Egypt! Divers unearthed a well constructed of stones and tree branches – the oldest known wooden construction – a testament to the ingenuity of these early inhabitants. Further exploration revealed a fascinating find – a fragment of a wooden bowl resting on an ancient pavement. This seemingly simple artifact, along with the remains of a press used in olive oil production, rewrite our understanding of early industry and paint a vivid picture of life in Neve David some 7,800 years ago. As we stand here, we are not just in a neighborhood, but on the very grounds where our ancestors toiled, innovated, and thrived.
