Neuschönningstedt began as a small place. It was part of Schöningstedt. There was the Haidkrug inn. A few houses stood along Möllner Landstraße. Langeloher Weg had a garden colony. Some pre-war houses still exist there.
After World War II, Hamburg suffered greatly. Bombing left many homeless. These people sought refuge in Neuschönningstedt. They built makeshift homes. Over time, these shelters became permanent residences. The Haidkrug inn was torn down in the 1980s.
The 1960s and 1970s saw big changes. Neuschönningstedt grew as a new development area. Parts of Stemwarde and Glinde were added. The Gertrud-Lege-School opened. It’s named after a former Schöningstedt mayor. A shopping center was built. The Gethsemane church was constructed. Klaus and Ursula Löwe designed it. This church became a central meeting point. It opened on September 20, 1974.
In 1974, Schöningstedt became part of Reinbek. This included Neuschönningstedt and Ohe. FC Voran Ohe uses the Neuschönningstedt sports field. The Buff Club Reinbek also plays home games there.
Neuschönningstedt connects to Hamburg’s transport network. Several bus lines serve the area. They link it to surrounding areas. Major roads include Möllner Landstraße. It runs to Glinde and Witzhave. Stemwarder Straße leads to Schöningstedt and Alt-Reinbek.
