Once, Neung-dong was not just a neighborhood. It was a collection of villages. Now, let’s explore this vibrant area of Seoul.

Neung-dong, a neighborhood in Gwangjin District, offers a blend of Korean tradition and modern attractions. Its history is richer than you might think. Imagine this area bustling with around 300 households. This was Neung-dong at its peak.

Originally, people from diverse families lived here together. Then, everything changed in 1904. Empress Sunmyeong founded the Yugangwon here. That event led to the area being renamed Neunggol. Later, the district divided into three villages. These villages were named Bukchon, Namchon and Seochon. These names meant north, south and west village, respectively. The names came from their locations around the Chiseongdang. People performed the Chiseong rite at this central point.

Today, Neung-dong is known for more than its history. It is a vibrant area with much to offer.

Neung-dong’s heart is the beautiful Children’s Grand Park. You can wander through stunning gardens here. Also, you can view animal exhibits and experience thrilling rides. It is a perfect spot for families and nature lovers.

Shopping enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy here. Neung-dong has many local shops and eateries. These places showcase Korean fashion and culinary delights. You can explore unique finds and savor delicious food.

But, Neung-dong also offers modern culinary experiences.

The Michelin Guide recognized Neungdong Minari for its water celery dishes. This shows that Neung-dong is a destination for food lovers. Neungdong Minari has locations in Hannamdong, Seongsu-dong and Yeouido.

From its historical roots to its modern attractions, Neung-dong is a neighborhood with a rich story. Take a stroll through its streets. Experience the blend of tradition and modernity. You’ll discover the charm of Neung-dong for yourself.
