In 2013, Nespereira and Casais embarked on a shared journey. These two formerly distinct parishes, Nespereira and Casais, merged to become the União das Freguesias de Nespereira e Casais. This union, part of the Lousada municipality, created a larger community with a combined area of 4.67 square kilometers. The most recent census in 2021 recorded a population of 3,434 people in Nespereira e Casais. This represents significant growth. Before the merger, Nespereira had a population of 2,085 in 2011, while Casais had 1,401. The combined population of the two parishes in 2011 was 3,486. The slight decrease seen in the 2021 census for Nespereira e Casais suggests demographic shifts after the merger. Perhaps some residents relocated, or birth rates changed. Regardless, Nespereira e Casais stands as a testament to the evolving nature of communities. It represents a blend of histories, traditions, and futures now intertwined.
