What makes a community? Ner Tamid Synagogue in Poway has spent over 30 years exploring this question. Ner Tamid Synagogue isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the power of connection. The synagogue connects Jews to Torah and to each other. It’s a vibrant hub of Jewish community and identity in North County San Diego. The architect Mark Baker designed Ner Tamid Synagogue. His vision was to create a “spiritual light on the hill”. He wanted a place that reflected the warmth of the San Diego Conservative Jewish community. He succeeded. The synagogue serves as a magnet, drawing people in with its striking architecture and welcoming atmosphere. Ner Tamid Synagogue is more than just a place of worship. It’s a place where people come together to learn, to celebrate, and to support one another. They host a variety of programs and events. From Shabbat services to a Purim Carnival, there’s always something happening at Ner Tamid. On February 20th, 2025, the synagogue was preparing for Shabbat. Candle lighting was at 5:21 pm, followed by Kabbalat Shabbat services at 7:00 pm. The next day, Shabbat services were held at 9:30 am, with Havdalah at 6:10 pm. The Torah portion for that week was Parshat Mishpatim. Ner Tamid Synagogue is a place where tradition meets innovation, where history intertwines with the present.
