Founded in 1953 the Nazarene Theological College stands as a testament to faith and education. It’s a place where dreams of ministry are nurtured. This wasn’t always in Thornlands Queensland though.
Initially the Nazarene Bible College as it was then known opened its doors in Thornleigh near Sydney. A six-acre property cost a substantial £17000. Seven resident students began their studies with Dr Richard S Taylor as the sole faculty member. Imagine the dedication. The college quickly outgrew its space.
Relocation to Thornlands in 1973 brought new challenges. Eighteen acres of land cost just $13000. A remarkable contrast to the earlier purchase price. Nine buildings rose on the southern outskirts of Brisbane. Classes resumed in 1976 under the leadership of Dr RT Bolerjack.
The name changed to Nazarene Theological College in 1993. This better reflected its evolving educational ethos. Accreditation of its programs followed. The Advanced Diploma of Ministry in 1994. The Bachelor of Ministry and a Graduate Diploma in Christian Studies in 2000.
The college welcomes students from diverse backgrounds. Its history boasts students from Canada to South Africa. It’s a truly international community bound by faith. The Nazarene Theological College remains an important institution. It continues to train men and women for Christian ministry globally. Its commitment to education and faith remains as strong today as it was in 1953. This is more than a college. It’s a legacy. A legacy of faith. A legacy of learning. A legacy that continues to grow.
