The Naturalario del Humedal is more than just a building. It is a gateway to understanding our environment. It’s strategically positioned southwest of Coslada. Train tracks and Avenida del Esparragal border it.
Historically, the Teatinos stream flowed through this area. It emptied into the Jarama River creating lagoons. These lagoons teemed with life. Amphibians thrived. Birds nested. Small mammals roamed. Diverse plant species flourished.
The Parque del Humedal features more than scenic paths. Nearly 100000 plants of various species call it home. The Naturalario serves as an environmental classroom. It hosts exhibitions. It provides courses. It is used for conferences. All these are related to the environment.
Locals consider El Humedal Coslada’s jewel. It is the city’s green lung. The park provides an easily accessible space for recreation and exercise. The Naturalario, part of the Natura network of the Community of Madrid, is very special. It offers outdoor activities for everyone. Its exhibits delight both young and old.
After a period of closure, the Naturalario has reopened. It now boasts improved climate control. Upgrades were made to the building’s insulation. Leaks and seepage have been repaired. The interior has been refreshed with new paint.
The Naturalario del Humedal offers diverse workshops. These focus on environmental care. One workshop involves building and installing nest boxes. These provide safe havens for local birds. They help birds nest and breed. They help reclaim natural habitat in urban settings like Coslada.
Another workshop focuses on aromatic plants. Participants create aromatic sachets. These can be used in various parts of the home. In June, a workshop teaches the ‘Nengo Dango’ method. This is a unique way of sowing seeds. Seeds are wrapped in clay. Water, fertilizer and a natural repellent are added. The balls are then scattered in fields.

The Naturalario also hosts exhibitions. These aim to raise environmental awareness. “Excreta” explores the importance of excrement in nature.
