Built in 1965 this magnificent structure commemorates Malaysia’s peaceful independence from Great Britain in 1957. Initially it was to be named Masjid Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj after the first Prime Minister. He humbly declined preferring the simpler Masjid Negara.
