Established in 1981 FINAS the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia stands proudly. It’s a cornerstone of Malaysian cinema a place where dreams are funded and films are born. This wasn’t always the case.
Initially the Malaysian film authority was divided. Filem Negara Malaysia handled production. FINAS focused on the financial side. This division proved inefficient. In 2013 a merger created a single powerful entity. FINAS now oversees all aspects of the industry.
More than just money FINAS offers support. It provides facilities studios equipment. It even has a film academy training future filmmakers. The government also lends a hand. Local filmmakers receive financial incentives. They also get discounts on television advertisements.
FINAS isn’t just about the present. It’s about preserving the past. Since 2020 FINAS has been digitally restoring old films. These are treasures from Filem Negara Malaysia’s archive. They’re now available online through Bernama and FINAS’s YouTube channel. They’re presented under the banner Retrospektif. This initiative ensures that Malaysian cinematic history isn’t lost. It’s a wonderful gift to future generations.
FINAS is also committed to the future. It runs funding programs. These programs help support high-quality productions and patriotic films. The Digital Content Fund and the National Film Production Fund are examples of this commitment.
So here we stand before FINAS. It’s more than just a building. It’s a symbol of Malaysia’s rich cinematic heritage and its bright future. It’s a place where stories are created. It’s a place where dreams take flight. It’s a place where Malaysian cinema thrives.
