How do you coordinate road repairs for two major events? The National Directorate of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control in Dili faced this challenge in preparation for Timor-Leste’s Restoration of Independence Day and the CPLP Summit. The National Directorate of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control, led by Rui Hernâni, held a meeting with national companies in March to discuss the rehabilitation of Dili’s roads. Their goal was to improve road conditions for these important celebrations. The National Directorate of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control wanted to ensure effective coordination. They assigned supervisors to each of the ten road sections under rehabilitation. They also appointed a company to be responsible for each section, streamlining communication with the Ministry of Public Works. Rui Hernâni emphasized the need for quality work. He urged companies to adhere to the project designs, methods, and technical standards. The Head of the Laboratory and Research Department, Saturnino Gomes, added another layer of quality control. He explained that a new laboratory would monitor the work. Companies were expected to follow the lab’s findings, particularly regarding materials like tar. Agostinho Gomes, director of the company Tinolina, represented the companies involved. He expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Works. He also pledged to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the road rehabilitations. The National Directorate of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control successfully managed these complex logistics. Their efforts ensured improved road conditions in Dili. This played a vital role in the success of both the Restoration of Independence Day celebrations in May and the CPLP Summit in July.
