Have you ever wondered about the quiet stories bridges tell? This bridge, the Nathanbrücke right here in Berlin-Wannsee, has quite a story to share. Built in 1972, it carries the Königsweg over the Teltowkanal connecting the Forst Düppel with the settlement Kohlhasenbrück. Before its current name, this bridge was known as the Königswegbrücke. It’s named after Louis Nathan, who was a member of the building committee of the Teltowkanal and a representative of the Teltow district. You might be surprised to learn that the bridge was built after a deal between West Berlin and East Germany, a deal that allowed West Berlin to reconnect with its exclaves Steinstücken and Albrechts Teerofen.
