NASA was moving personnel from various parts of the United States, enticed by the allure of sunny Florida and California. The developers wanted to create a new home for these workers, and a space that would feel familiar and comfortable. So they decided to name this new community “Nassau Bay” – a nod to the tropical beaches of the Bahamas. Nassau Bay opened in 1964, and quickly became a vital part of the community surrounding the Johnson Space Center. So here we are, in Nassau Bay- more than fifty years later – still basking in the shadow of space exploration.
