Here in Houston stands Nanoracks a pioneering force in the commercial space industry. Founded in 2009 by Jeffrey Manber and Charles Miller, Nanoracks is revolutionizing access to space. Initially, Nanoracks partnered with NASA. The goal was to provide commercial hardware for the U.S. National Laboratory on the International Space Station (ISS). Nanoracks signed its first NASA contract in September 2009. By April 2010, their first laboratory was operational on the ISS.
But Nanoracks didn’t stop there. The company became the first to coordinate small satellite deployments from the ISS. These deployments utilized the Japanese Kibō module’s airlock.

Externally, Nanoracks deploys CubeSats into orbit using the Nanoracks CubeSat Deployer. The satellites receive a push of about 1 m/s. This starts the process of separation from the ISS.
The Nanoracks External Platform (NREP) offers a gateway to the harsh environment of space. Payloads experience microgravity and radiation. They can test sensors and materials. Some payloads even return to Earth.
The Nanoracks Kaber Microsat Deployer is a reusable system. It allows the ISS to control satellite deployments. It can deploy microsatellites up to 82 kg.
Through the External Cygnus Deployer (E-NRCSD), satellites deploy at a higher altitude than the ISS. This extends the life of CubeSats in low-Earth orbit.
