Craving a snowy escape? Nanbaoshan offers a unique tale. It is a cautionary one.

Nanbaoshan is located in Qionglai City Chengdu. It is envisioned as a mountain climbing destination and a tourist resort. But appearances can be deceiving.

Imagine the scene. It is the Lunar New Year holiday. Travelers arrive expecting a winter wonderland. Promotional photos showed thick snow on the roofs of wooden cabins. Disappointment quickly sets in. The snow is not real. It is cotton. Large sheets of cotton and bedsheets are scattered. They were meant to mimic snow drifts. Visitors were understandably upset.

The Chengdu Snow Village project quickly issued an apology. They admitted to purchasing cotton to create a snowy atmosphere. The effect missed the mark. It left a bad impression. Unusually warm weather was blamed for the lack of real snow. Staff explained they set up the scene for photoshoots. They were waiting for the snow to come. But the weather did not cooperate.

The local culture and tourism bureau investigated. They confirmed the situation. The owner was ordered to dismantle the fake snow scene. Refunds were issued to tourists. Nanbaoshan was temporarily closed for repairs. The market supervision department investigated possible false advertising.

Authorities learned from this incident. They strengthened supervision of tourist attractions. They urged businesses to operate with integrity.

Nanbaoshan’s fake snow became infamous. It drew comparisons to other disastrous events. Some likened it to the Fyre Festival. Others compared it to a problematic Willy Wonka experience.

Nanbaoshan serves as a reminder. Travel photos are not always what they seem. It is important to manage expectations. Sometimes reality falls short of the picture-perfect ideal.
