Ever felt the magic of dawn embrace a city? Here at Nahargarh Sunrise Viewpoint, that magic is our daily spectacle. Nahargarh Fort itself stands as a sentinel on the Aravalli Ranges edge. It offers the most stunning city view.

Let me paint you a picture of Nahargarh Fort’s history. Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur’s king, built Nahargarh in 1734. He wanted to boost his capital’s security. This was after battles against the Marathas. Legend says a ghost, Nahar Singh Bhomia, haunted the construction. The fort was named to appease him. A temple was even built inside for the ghost.

Centuries ago, Nahargarh served as a royal treasury. The last king, Sawai Man Singh II, moved it in the 1940s. Nahargarh’s design is strategic. Its ramparts link to Jaigarh Fort. Though never attacked, its cannons signaled the time on ceremonial occasions. Locals whisper tales of concubines banished here. Ras Kapoor, a dancing girl and royal obsession, met a mysterious end within these walls.

Now, look around you here at Nahargarh Sunrise Viewpoint. The palace complex before you called Madhavendra Bhavan. Sawai Madho Singh II added it in the 19th century. He made Nahargarh a recreational retreat. Thakur Fateh Singh designed this lavish palace. It seems Madho Singh knew how to enjoy royal life.

Unfortunately after Sawai Man Singh II moved to Moti Dungri palace, Nahargarh was neglected. However, the fort has starred in movies. “Sonar Kella,” “Rang de Basanti,” and “Shuddh Desi Romance” all filmed scenes here. More recently, Nahargarh has seen new life. A restaurant, wax museum, and sculpture park have opened here.

Interestingly, reaching Nahargarh Sunrise Viewpoint can be an adventure. You can hike a cobblestone path from Nahargarh Palace Hotel. If you are fit, it takes about 30 minutes. The path ends right near this sunrise point. Or, you can brave the windy road by car. Some call it the “drive of death”.

Take a moment to appreciate this strategic location. Nahargarh sits almost 2,000 feet above sea level. It is perched on a ridge just north of Jaipur. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan.

As you stand here at Nahargarh Sunrise Viewpoint, notice the step wells. Nahargarh has its own baolis, where water was stored. The one outside the fort is quite impressive. It even featured in “Rang de Basanti.” Remember to look at the ramparts. They offer stunning views of Jaipur. You can see other forts and Jal Mahal on Man Sagar Lake. Be careful if you walk on them, though. The construction is aged.

Before us, Kali Burj is another popular spot. It is near Padao Restaurant. It is promoted as a sunset point. The fort glows in the evenings. That makes it even more magical.

Soak it in. This view. This history. This moment. Nahargarh Sunrise Viewpoint offers more than just a sunrise. It offers a glimpse into Jaipur’s soul.
