Myongji High School is linked to Myongji University. Myongji University began as Seoul Primary College of Home Economics in 1948. The Mugung Foundation established it. In 1953, they created Geunhwa Women’s Junior School. It was a modern school for women. The name changed to Seoul Women’s Junior College in 1955.

In 1956, it became coeducational. It was renamed Seoul College of Education of Liberal Arts and Science. Christian values became central. In 1962, the name changed again. It became Seoul Practical College of Liberal Arts and Science.

The institution’s name changed to Myongji Institution. This was based on Christian faith. In 1964, President Sang-geun You took office. Then it became Myongji University. It gained university status. Ten development programs were planned. These included new buildings and departments. Graduate schools were established.

Myongji University continued to grow. Yongin Campus was built. It split into natural and social sciences campuses.

Myongji University has a strong Christian spirit. Its symbol is a leafed tree. This represents faith and leadership. The goal is to help students contribute to culture, the nation, and world peace.

The mascot is a white stallion. It symbolizes loyalty, courage, and purity. It reflects the Korean people’s equestrian history. Myongjians should embody these virtues. They should work towards God’s kingdom on Earth.

Myongji University has many colleges. These include Humanities, Social Science, and Engineering. There are also Arts and Physical Education. A unique department is Baduk Studies. It focuses on the academic study of Baduk. This is a traditional board game.

Myongji University offers many scholarships. These support graduate studies. Professors offer funds and assistantships. The Korean government provides scholarships too. The university supports both graduate and undergraduate students.

Many notable people attended Myongji University. This includes Park Ji-sung. He was a famous footballer. Also, many singers like Taemin from SHINee. Actors like Park Bo Gum are alumni.
