Sculpted in bronze, the Mutter mit Kind statue stands as a silent observer in Berlin’s Brosepark. The Mutter mit Kind, a creation of Reinhold Felderhoff, has journeyed through time and across Berlin. Imagine her in 1911, newly cast and placed in Bürgerpark Pankow, a symbol of maternal love. The Mutter mit Kind depicts a mother, bare-chested, holding a child on her right shoulder. The child is cradled securely, supported by both of her arms. The statue is 2.15 meters tall, a significant presence in the park. For decades, the Mutter mit Kind graced Bürgerpark Pankow, a familiar figure to locals. Then, in the early 1950s, she was moved. Her new home was the old Pankower Dorfanger, in front of the Rathaus. She remained there until 1971, witnessing the changing face of Berlin. But her journey wasn’t over. Removed from the Dorfanger, the Mutter mit Kind was temporarily stored in Bürgerpark, waiting for her next destination. Finally, in 1976, she found her current home in Brosepark, near the entrance beside the Brosehaus. The Mutter mit Kind stands there today, a testament to enduring artistry and a reminder of her travels through Berlin’s history.
