Ever wondered what it was like to ride a bus in Madrid decades ago? The Museo EMT offers a nostalgic journey into the history of Madrid’s Municipal Transport Company. This museum showcases the evolution of urban transportation.

The Museo EMT treasures a collection of 42 old buses. Among them are the emblematic double-decker Guy Arab models from 1947. You can also admire the Leyland Titan from 1957. These vehicles are considered historical heritage.

Beyond buses, the Museo EMT displays bus shelters. Streetcar seats and models are also on display. Maps from different periods of the city are available. They place us in different eras.

Since 1990, EMT Madrid has preserved one of each vehicle model. They retire from service with the goal of gathering a historical collection. The recovery of the material has been a challenge. Exhaustive research and restoration were performed. Many items were in different states of conservation.

Currently, the Museo EMT resides within the EMT Madrid Operations Center in Fuencarral. It occupies a 5000 square meter space. This space is one of the few industrial buildings from the 60s remaining in Madrid.

The Museo EMT had 6200 visitors last year. Due to the Madrid Nuevo Norte project, the museum will relocate soon.

Visiting hours in 2025 include Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. You can visit at 10:00, 11:30, 13:00, and 17:00. The 17:00 visit is available only from March 1 to June 1.

General admission to the Museo EMT is 5 euros. Reduced admission is 3 euros. This applies to children under 7, large families, students, and jobseekers. People with disabilities, EMT employees, and seniors over 65 also qualify. Children under 4 and members of the Association of Friends of EMT get in free. Group entries for 15 to 40 people costs 3 euros each.

In 2024, the Museo EMT had a record number of visitors. It opens in two periods from March 1 to July 31 and September 6 to November 16. It is open in the morning and afternoon.

The Ayuntamiento and EMT Madrid estimated that the COAM offers the ideal framework. They have the experience to manage all elements for the construction of the future museum.

The Museo EMT is more than just a collection of old buses. It is a journey through time. It shows Madrid’s transportation history. Each exhibit tells a story of innovation. It shows the dedication to public service. As you leave, reflect on how far the city has come. Consider how the Museo EMT preserves these memories for future generations.
