Ever wondered what it felt like to step inside a ship without leaving the city? That’s precisely the sensation Museo Casa De Pepino evokes. The Museo Casa De Pepino stands before us a testament to history and imagination.

This building wasn’t just any house. It was once home to Josè Tucci an Italian immigrant. Tucci arrived in Argentina in the late 19th century. He opened a general store called Pepino 88.

Two stories explain the name. One says “Pepino” came from Josè’s nickname “Pepe”. The “88” might have marked a special date perhaps his arrival year. Another story links it to Josè Podestá a clown friend. Podestá wore a costume with two patches that looked like the number 88.

Tucci later commissioned José Bettoli to build a house. Bettoli built it in the shape of a ship. This honored Tucci’s journey from Italy by sea. The house appeared to sail on the waters of La Cañada stream. The walls narrow towards the corner creating a ship’s bow effect. Tucci moved his store into theunique building.

Step inside Museo Casa De Pepino. It opened as a cultural center on December 6 2005. This followed the restoration of Tucci’s old house and store. The goal was to preserve the memory of Pueblo Nuevo.

The Museo Casa De Pepino now hosts the Almacén de la Memoria a permanent exhibit. It showcases the customs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Fundación OSDE helped create four white rooms. These rooms display visual arts with a focus on Argentine identity.

The Museo Casa De Pepino also features a gallery a library a courtyard and a park. These spaces host visual and performing arts and music events.

The Museo Casa De Pepino attracts art lovers students and tourists. They come to learn about the history of Güemes. The Museo Casa De Pepino is open Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 9:30 PM.
