Step into the world of Dr Armand Frappier. This remarkable museum in Laval tells his story. He was a pioneer in preventive medicine a true Quebec hero. The Musée Armand-Frappier is more than a museum. It’s a journey into the fascinating world of human health. It opened in 1994. It was founded by the Armand-Frappier Institute the Armand-Frappier Foundation and the City of Laval. Originally it focused on Dr Frappier’s life and work. His daughter Lise Frappier-Davignon was its first president and director.

But the Musée Armand-Frappier evolved. It expanded its mission. It became a center for scientific knowledge dissemination. In 1999 it revamped its permanent exhibition. It also started offering educational programs. The museum’s popularity increased. Its ties with researchers at the Armand-Frappier Centre for Biotechnology strengthened.

The MicroZoo exhibition debuted in 2001. This marked a shift. It showcased the amazing world of microorganisms. The museum became much more active. It hosted lab activities workshops and even science camps. These hands-on experiences became the museum’s trademark. Attendance soared from 1000 to over 6000 visitors annually.

In 2002 the museum was officially named the Armand-Frappier Centre for Bioscience Interpretation. The name Musée de la santé Armand-Frappier was retained for common usage. It broadened its programming. The museum’s activities grew more numerous and diverse. In 2013 the museum defined its mission. It was dedicated to interpreting the sciences related to human health.

A second phase of revitalization began in 2007. Every year brought new exhibits and events. Temporary exhibitions explored topics like microbes genetic modification immunology and even allergies. The museum hosted an adaptation of the Musée de l’Homme’s exhibition “Us and Others From Prejudice to Racism”. The exhibition Bouger! explored the body in motion and the benefits of physical activity. It ran from 2020 to 2022.

The Musée Armand-Frappier achieved remarkable growth. Visitor numbers increased more than twentyfold. The museum maintained service quality. Its unique approach remained distinctive. Even with increased visitor numbers every visitor is greeted by a scientific animator. This animator provides personalized guidance ensuring a memorable experience.

In 2022 the museum officially changed its name. It became the Musée de la santé Armand-Frappier. This clarified its thematic focus. The museum also received a new brand image and a new website. In 2019 the City of Laval commissioned the design and construction of the new facilities. The new location adjacent to the Cosmodôme opened in January 2023. The new building offered larger more accessible spaces.

The new museum offers two new exhibitions. The permanent exhibition “4 3 2 1… Santé!” highlights Dr Frappier’s legacy. A temporary exhibition “Pandemics Humanity’s Challenge” explores the history of pandemics. Today the Musée de la santé Armand-Frappier continues its dynamic programming.
