“Imagine a church standing strong for over 120 years. That’s Murray Baptist Church. It has deep roots in Murray, Utah.

Murray Baptist Church sits just off State Street. It is next to Cameo College Of Essential Beauty and Intermountain Healthcare TOSH. The church is more than just a building. It’s a community hub.

Do you know about the Murray Children’s Pantry? It’s right in the church parsonage. That’s next door. Murray Baptist Church partners with many to feed the area. They provide thousands of meals.

Let’s go back in time. The Murray Baptist Church started in 1900. It was located at 4800 South State. That’s one half block west of State Street, at Poplar. Tragedy struck in 1924. A fire destroyed the church. But they rebuilt.

In 1926, a new structure rose. It still stands today, even after another fire in 1946. James Payne became the pastor in 1926. He served for 15 years. James and his wife came from Illinois. They grew the church to 87 members.

These members worked hard. They dug a basement. They used picks and shovels. This created more space. The church outgrew the building. They sold it to the Oddfellows Lodge. Later, the Unity Church bought it.

Murray City bought the building in 1986. They planned to widen Poplar Street. The city wanted to tear down the church. Bill and Susan Wright stepped in. They moved the church on October 14, 1987. It became a wedding chapel.

Today, Murray Baptist Church welcomes everyone. Dusty Trent is completing his internship here. He is a Master of Divinity student. He hopes everyone feels loved. The church loves God. It loves others. It offers many programs. These include youth groups and Bible studies. These help members grow in their faith. They serve the community.

Remember Murray Baptist Church. It’s a place of history. It’s a place of love. It’s a place of community.”
