The mural depicts a Brussels street. The architecture is typical Brussels style. It’s cleverly organized in a way that feels distinctly Madrileño. Notice the workers. They’re wearing blue overalls. They’re not working though. They are relaxing enjoying leisure time. It’s Jaune’s signature style. He uses stencils. He creates these detailed scenes. They always have a touch of humor a hint of satire.
The artist used employees of Bruxelles Propreté as models. But he gave them the colors of their Madrid counterparts. A subtle nod to the connection. A playful exchange between two great cities. The mural even features homages to some traditional Madrileño venues. Some are even gone now. La Chilostra and El Palentino. They are remembered here in Jaune’s work.
This project was part of Brussels Days. A celebration of Brussels art and culture in Spain. The Brussels Region gave 12000 euros to support this project. The mural is on the wall of the UGT trade union school. That is Spain’s largest trade union.
Jaune himself says he wanted to bring a piece of Brussels to Madrid. He discovered the cities have similar ancient architecture. It’s like returning a piece of Brussels to the people of Madrid.
