Once a humble village boy, Hafız Rıza Çolluoğlu’s life was profoundly shaped by faith and education. He rose from those humble beginnings to become one of Ankara’s most beloved preachers, his booming voice echoing through the Muradiye Rıza Çolluoğlu Cami. This mosque, a beacon of his enduring legacy, stands as a testament to his dedication to Islamic teachings and community service. Born in 1928 in Korkmazlar village, Çolluoğlu began his religious education at the tender age of six. He eventually traveled to Istanbul to further his studies, immersing himself in the city’s rich Islamic scholarly tradition. After serving as a muezzin in Istanbul, he returned to Ankara in 1949. He became not just a preacher at the Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı but also the imam of the Yenimahalle Çavuşoğlu Mosque. His sermons were legendary for their directness and unwavering commitment to Islamic principles, captivating congregations with his deep knowledge and charismatic delivery. But Çolluoğlu’s vision extended beyond the pulpit. He understood the transformative power of education, a belief that led him to co-found the Muradiye Cultural Foundation with Mustafa Kalfaoğlu in 1978.
