From the heart of Athens a vibrant story unfolds. This is the Municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli. A bustling suburb it is. Its name itself whispers a tale. Argyroupoli means silver city in Greek. This name is a direct link to its origins. Refugees from Argyroupolis in Turkey arrived here in 1926. They carried with them memories of their homeland. They rebuilt their lives in this new Argyroupoli. They named their new settlement Nea Argyroupolis. This name honored their past. It is a testament to their resilience.

A British air raid in 1943 devastated the settlement. Though casualties were reportedly minimal the bombing destroyed much of the town. The residents however rebuilt their lives once again. The community of Kalamaki included Elliniko-Argyroupoli until 1949. Then it became a separate community. It gained municipality status in 1972.

Today Elliniko-Argyroupoli thrives. It offers a blend of modern amenities and historical significance. Its cafes restaurants and bars create a lively atmosphere. Vouliagmenis Avenue is a major thoroughfare. It connects Athens to the southern suburbs. The metro also serves the area. Argyroupoli and Alimos stations provide easy access. Kyprou Avenue M Geroulanou Avenue and part of Vouliagmenis Avenue are popular destinations. Numerous bus routes connect Elliniko-Argyroupoli to Athens and Glyfada.
