Gazing up, can you imagine Kuala Lumpur’s skyline back in 1994? The Multi Purpose Tower pierced the sky. It stood almost alone then.

The Multi Purpose Tower is a skyscraper on Jalan Munshi Abdullah. It is in the midtown of Kuala Lumpur. Locals often call it Menara Multi-Purpose.

This tower serves as headquarters to several important companies. These include Multi-Purpose Holdings Berhad and MPI Generali Insurans Berhad. Alliance Bank also calls it home. Bandar Raya Developments Berhad is here too.

Bandar Raya Developments Berhad developed Menara Multi-Purpose. The tower’s design comes from John Portman & Associates. Jurubena Bertiga International also contributed.

Originally, the Multi Purpose Tower was part of a bigger project. This was Capital Square. The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis changed those plans. Only Menara Multi Purpose was completed. The crisis left partially built structures around it.

Today, Capital Square is complete. It is a fully integrated area. There is a second office tower. You can find a retail center and luxury residences too.

The Multi Purpose Tower once housed its developers, BRDB. They have moved to Menara BRDB in Bangsar.

In 2016, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan bought the Multi Purpose Tower. The sale price was RM474.3 million. It was the largest office building sale in Malaysia that year.

If you want to arrive here by bus, it is easy. Jalan Munshi Abdullah has a major bus hub. You can also take the train. Menara Multi Purpose is near several stations. These include Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek metro stations. Dang Wangi metro station is nearby too. You can also use Bank Negara Komuter station.

Menara Multi-Purpose is a Grade-A office tower. It has 40 stories. The tower is at the center of CapSquare. Bukit Bintang shopping area and Suria KLCC are not far.

You can get here using several roads. Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Ampang are options. Jalan Tunku Rahman and the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway work too. Dang Wangi LRT station is a short walk away.

The Malaysian Chinese Association, MCA, once owned Menara Multi-Purpose. They bought it in 2011 for RM375 million.
