Standing in front of Mt. Welcome Baptist Church, a towering landmark in Decatur, Georgia, you can almost feel the stories of resilience and faith whispered through the stone. Founded in 1900, Mt. Welcome Baptist Church was born in a time of great hardship and change for African Americans. The church was a beacon of hope and a source of strength for the community. The church moved several times to different locations in Decatur. You can still feel the echoes of their dedication in the rich history of this church. A small group of believers in the early 1900s brought the church to life. The church has had many pastors over the years. The most notable pastor, Reverend Charles W. Grant, served for 46 years, from 1965 to 2011. It was during his tenure that the church prospered. It’s a testament to the enduring power of faith and community. And it’s a part of the story etched into the walls of Mt. Welcome Baptist Church.
