How about a story of faith and vision intertwined? This is the story of Mt. Pleasant Church. It stands here as a testament to dedication. It reflects the dreams of its pastors and congregation.

Mt. Pleasant Church began as the United Faithful Prayer Band in 1948. Later that year, it transformed into Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Collis O. Stewart became its first pastor.

The church initially met at 3712 Preston. In 1955, the congregation celebrated burning the mortgage. This marked a huge milestone for Mt. Pleasant Church.

Reverend Stewart served for 37 years. After his passing in 1985, Reverend Dr. Robert L. Redmond II took over in 1986.

Pastor Stewart envisioned a larger church. Pastor Redmond continued this vision. In 1991, the church moved to its current location on Moross Road. Another mortgage burning celebration followed. Mt. Pleasant Church was growing.

In 2001, Reverend Dr. James J. Minnick became the pastor. He succeeded Dr. Redmond II who had fallen ill.

Pastor Minnick introduced Vision 2020 in 2016. This vision aimed to shift the church’s focus. It would move from charity to spiritual enterprise. The goal was to embrace opportunities within God’s Kingdom. Mt. Pleasant Church was evolving.

Mt. Pleasant Church believes in spiritual growth. They think believers should grow closer to Jesus. This happens through obeying God’s Word. It also involves yielding to the Holy Spirit. The aim is to become more like Christ.

The church values the Bible. They see it as inspired by God and without error. It is the foundation for their faith. It guides their conduct and teachings.

Mt. Pleasant Church believes in one God. This God exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He came to earth as the Savior.

The church emphasizes Jesus’ sacrifice. They believe he died for our sins. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus’ actions on the cross. They believe Jesus rose and will return.

Water baptism holds significance. It symbolizes the cleansing power of Christ’s blood. It shows faith in Jesus. Communion is also important. It is a regular act of remembering Jesus’ sacrifice.

Mt. Pleasant Church is more than a building. It is a community. It is a place of faith. It is a place of vision. The message of Mt. Pleasant is clear. Christ saves sinners. This message transforms lives. The church strives to live out this message in their community.
