Did you know that MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School began as a dream for Kolkata in 1988? It started in Behala’s green surroundings. Philanthropist Shri Madhav Prasadji Birla and Smt. Priyamvada Birla guided its establishment. The M. P. Birla Foundation Education Society made it a reality. This non-profit institution stands on James Long Sarani.

MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School first had 1500 students. It was initially linked to the CBSE board. In March 1993, the first Class X batch took the CBSE exam. All 65 students achieved first division marks. Later, in 1995, the school switched to ICSE. By 1996, it added plus two level classes. It offered both Science and Commerce. Students excel in board and competitive exams every year. They secure places in top higher education institutes. Since 1988, the school has steadily grown stronger. Today the school has 3100 students.

Dr. Santanu Panja is an oncologist at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital. Debmalya Banerjee is the Regional Director of ASSOCHAM.
