Mountgorry. Does the name Cnocán Ghofraidh ring a bell? That is Mountgorry’s Irish name.

Mountgorry is a townland. It sits in the civil parish of Swords. Mountgorry is also part of the barony of Nethercross. All of this lies within County Dublin.

Mountgorry’s coordinates are 53° 27′ 13″ N and 6° 12′ 5″ W. Brianh added Mountgorry to OpenStreetMap on August 15, 2015. Mountgorry is not huge. It ranks as the 50,791st largest townland nationally. Within County Dublin, it’s the 716th largest. We don’t know any sub-townlands within Mountgorry.

Now, let’s jump to a specific spot within Mountgorry. Mountgorry Cottage. It once stood as a derelict 1920s stone cottage. It needed complete refurbishment. In 2023, someone bought it for €195,600. The cottage had been uninhabited for over 30 years. Half its roof was missing. Trees were growing inside.

The new owner, a property professional, saw potential. They worked with architect Greg Tisdall. Together, they fully restored the cottage. They also added an extension to the rear.

The original 40 sq m cottage transformed into a 97 sq m home. It now has three bedrooms. The kitchen/living room features black wooden units. A bespoke black staircase leads to a mezzanine living area. Exposed stone walls hint at the property’s age.

A smoked larch clad extension houses three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The third bedroom can serve as a living room or home office. Gardens have been levelled and planted. A courtyard sits to the rear.

The renovated cottage boasts modern amenities. It includes a new roof, insulation and underfloor heating. Eight solar panels heat the water. High-tech features allow remote control of each room via a smartphone app. The app also provides usage readings.

Mountgorry Cottage is conveniently located. It is about 300m from the Pavilions in Swords. Swords Castle and Town Park are nearby. Malahide, with its sailing, golfing and beaches, is just a short drive away.

The completely refurbished cottage sought €675,000. It had a B1 energy rating and more than doubled in size.
Mountgorry offers a blend of history and modern living, a testament to thoughtful restoration.
