What if the walls of Mountair Christian Church could talk? They would tell a story of faith, community, and a quest for wholeness that spans nearly a century. Let’s step inside this place of worship. We will uncover the layers of history that make Mountair Christian Church a beacon in Lakewood.

Mountair Christian Church’s story begins in the early 1920s. It started as a mission sponsored by Central Christian Church in Denver. The congregation first gathered at Mount Air School. The neighborhood was known as Mount Air back then. By 1926, it became a recognized congregation. In the late 1920s, the church acquired land at Ames St and 14th in Lakewood. It built its original church building there. Then in 1951, a significant move occurred. The lot on Benton St, its current location, was purchased. The present church building was erected. Mountair Christian Church developed an important role in the community.

Mountair Christian Church worked “for wholeness in the inner being through the outer expression of faith in Jesus”. This relationship with God and others remains central to their mission. It represents a path to peace. The church is a product of the Restoration Movement. This American religious movement sought unity within the church. Their motto was “In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity”. The Lord’s Supper symbolized unity. Baptism signified the spiritual journey connecting the church body.

Mountair Christian Church embraces inclusivity. It recognizes the diversity of cultural, societal, and religious backgrounds. The church believes unity does not mean uniformity. The mystery of God’s Spirit unites them. Scripture is a mysterious revelation. It offers knowledge about God. Jesus Christ is the son of God. The Holy Spirit guides their faith journey.

Mountair Christian Church actively engages with different generations. It promotes intercultural conversation. It fosters a multilingual, multi-cultural, and inter-societal expression of faith. The church’s mission is simple. Reach, Equip, and Serve. They reach out to their neighborhood and beyond. They equip themselves with Christian principles. They serve the community as a whole.

Today, Mountair Christian Church stands as a testament to steadfast love. It welcomes all who seek a life abundant amidst chaos. It is led by dedicated individuals. Rev. Ruben Rodriguez is the Lead Pastor. Racquel Holladay is the Office Manager. Rhonda Padilla is the Worship Pastor. They continue the church’s mission. The church received a $2,500 grant from Collier Foundation in 2021.

As you stand before Mountair Christian Church, consider its journey. Think about its commitment to unity, diversity, and service. It is more than just a building. It is a living testament to faith. It’s a place where all are welcome to join the quest for a meaningful life.
