Silent and stoic, Mount Zion stands. It has witnessed centuries of history, faith, and conflict. Today, we stand on its slopes, a place that resonates deeply with both the Jewish and Christian faiths. Mount Zion, a name synonymous with Jerusalem itself, wasn’t always confined within the city walls. In ancient times, this hill we stand on was a fortress, the stronghold of the Jebusites. King David, a pivotal figure in Jewish history, conquered this fortress. He established his own city, the City of David, right here on Mount Zion. The name resonated with such power that it eventually became synonymous with Jerusalem and the Holy Land itself, a symbol of the yearning of the Jewish people. But Mount Zion holds even more layers of significance for Christians. This site witnessed key events in Jesus’s life. Tradition tells us that within the walls of a building on Mount Zion, Jesus shared his Last Supper with his disciples. Later, in the same place, the Holy Spirit descended upon those disciples, marking the birth of the Christian Church.
