Mount Saint Michael Academy opened its doors on September 13, 1926. Fourteen Marist Brothers were the first educators. They dedicated the school to Saint Michael the Archangel. The motto, “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” meaning “To the Stars Through Difficulties,” reflects the school’s commitment to its students. Mount Saint Michael Academy isn’t just a school. It’s a launchpad. They also receive life skills necessary for success. In 1992, the U.S. Department of Education recognized Mount Saint Michael Academy’s excellence. It named the school a National Blue Ribbon School. The campus borders both the Bronx and Mount Vernon in Westchester County. It sits on 22 acres. The grounds include a football stadium, a track, a baseball diamond, and four practice fields. They also can join 17 interscholastic sports. The school is equipped with four computer rooms and a well-equipped library. Each classroom has Smart Board technology. The academy provides support for students with IEPs through the Focus Education Program. It nurtures gifted and talented students in the Champagnat Scholars Program. The academy even offers a Sports Medicine Program for those interested in medical careers. Mount Saint Michael Academy boasts a notable alumni list. It includes successful individuals from various fields. Some notable alumni include Rocco B. Commisso, founder of Mediacom, and NBA Hall of Famer Richie Guerin. The academy has faced challenges.
