In 1930, a small group of believers laid the foundation for what would become the Mount Paron Baptist Church. They started with just fourteen members and $6.25. Their first meeting place was a humble wooden house on the 1400 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. Imagine the spirit of those early days at Mount Paron. The first auxiliaries formed were the Sunday School, Mission Department, and the Senior Usher Board. These were the pillars of the growing community. Mount Paron Baptist Church hasn’t always been known by its current name. Over the years, it’s been called Lakeside Baptist Church, First Colored Baptist Church, and simply Mount Paran Baptist Church. The church has also seen several relocations and rebuildings. The most recent occurred in 1990, under the guidance of Pastor C. L. Pennywell. The church’s journey reflects the resilience and faith of its congregation. From its humble beginnings to its present form, Mount Paron has been shepherded by six pastors: Rev. E. D. Robinson, Rev. Johnny Young, Rev. L. W. Reed, Rev. C. L. Pennywell, Rev. Lonnie L. Moore, Jr., and Rev. Everett L. Hall. Each leader contributed to the church’s unique story. Mount Paron Missionary Baptist Church continues to serve its community. Its mission is “Discipling the church to impact our community.” The church’s vision is “to develop a disciple making church, with a congregation of fully equipped believers.” This vision aims to impact the community and transform lives through Christ.
