From its small beginnings in 1939 the congregation met in homes. First in the Kay home then at Reverend Kiel’s church. They eventually organized formally on April 25 1946. This marked a significant step in their journey.
Their dedication led them to build a permanent structure. The groundbreaking ceremony was in 1947. They moved from a temporary tent to their first church building on Grove and Baer Streets in 1950. This wasn’t the end of their expansion. The church has undergone multiple expansions to accommodate its growing membership.
The leadership of Reverend L.P. Pointer Sr was pivotal. He led the church from 1946 to 1968. His twenty-two years of service laid a strong foundation for the church’s future. His legacy is honored even today through the L.P. Pointer Fellowship Hall added in 2003. The addition of this hall reflects the church’s continued commitment to community and fellowship.
Following Reverend Pointer several ministers served as pastors. In 1983 Reverend Byrd Lacey Jr became pastor. Under his leadership a new edifice was completed in 1987. This stands as a visible marker of the church’s ongoing progress and spiritual vitality.
