“Twelve pairs of tiny feet” marked the start of something extraordinary. This is the story of Mount Carmel School in Delhi. It began in 1972.
Mount Carmel School started with just twelve students. Flt. Lt. Vijay and Dr. Neena Williams welcomed them. Their home at E-47 Anand Niketan became the first classroom.
Today, Mount Carmel School has grown immensely. There are three branches now. They are in Anand Niketan, Dwarka, and Gurugram. Over 45000 students attend. A staff of 180 supports them.
Mount Carmel School is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE. The Mount Carmel School Society runs it. The society is church-based. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.
In 2012, Mount Carmel School celebrated its 40th anniversary. The celebration took place in Talkatora Stadium. Air Chief Marshal Norman Anil Kumar Browne honored the founders. Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai attended the event.
Mount Carmel School has achieved academic excellence. In 2019, a student scored 100 percentile in the Joint Entrance Examination. Over 11 lakh students took the exam. Mount Carmel School’s performance was outstanding.
Mount Carmel School students excel in sports too. The school won a gold medal in the 33rd Delhi State Taekwondo Championship. They also secured second position in the All India Tennis Championship.
Mount Carmel School offers international student exchange programs. Students can experience life in Singapore, Wales, Hungary and Indonesia. This broadens their perspectives.
In 2002, Mount Carmel School initiated a “Right to Education” program. They set up a Shiksha Kendra. Teachers camped in West Delhi slum clusters. They convinced parents to send their children to school.

The Dwarka branch started in 1997. It was the Silver Jubilee year of the parent school. There were 165 students initially. Now, the school has about 3500 students. There are 300 staff members.
Mount Carmel School’s Anand Niketan branch has two buildings. The Junior School houses students from Nursery to Class III. The Senior School is for Classes IV to Class XII.
Mount Carmel School focuses on holistic development. They prioritize students learning to give to others. The school has an active adult literacy program. Students teach underprivileged people in Shastri Market.
