This church, founded in 1861, is woven into the very fabric of San Antonio. It began as a humble bush shelter known as Harvey’s Chapel, a testament to the deep faith of its founders, Miles Harvey and Charles Capps. Over the years, it grew to become Mount Carmel as we know it today. This transformation reflects the resilience of the congregation who faced numerous challenges, including the devastating fire that destroyed their building in 2010. Despite these hardships, the church stood strong, continuing its mission of spreading the gospel and serving their community. The spirit of community shines bright here, from its founding members’ dedication to constructing the original church, to its current pastor, Reverend Michael A. Barclift, who continues to foster a thriving congregation.
