Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church

In 1951, a small prayer band dared to dream big. This prayer band, led by Brother George Washington and later Pastor Albert Green, laid the foundation for what we now know as Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church’s story began in the humble home of Deacon Joe and Mother Laura Thomas. Thirteen souls gathered in faith, seeking fellowship and spiritual growth. Imagine these early days, the power of prayer filling a modest living room in Los Angeles. This small group, driven by their belief, held services in the Thomas home for over a year. In 1952, the group moved to their first church building at 103 Hickory Street. They continued to blossom, their numbers increasing alongside their unwavering faith. Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church officially came into existence in 1953. The congregation, growing in numbers, set their sights on a larger space. Their prayers were answered in the form of an old fire station at 11625 Lou Dillon Street. This repurposed building became a beacon of hope and a testament to their dedication. The first baptism within the walls of Mount Beulah was Brother Willie Price, marking a significant moment in the church’s history. Following Pastor Green, Rev. Frank Davis led the congregation. Then, in 1964, Rev. Robert Brown became pastor, ushering in a new era of expansion and growth for Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church. The church found its current home at 1601 E. 113th Street in 1970. Under Pastor Brown’s guidance, Mount Beulah flourished. Youth and young adult programs were established. Vacation Bible School, weekly Bible study, and prayer meetings became integral parts of the church’s life. Pastor Brown’s emphasis on applying God’s word to daily life resonated with the community, nurturing spiritual growth until his passing in 1985. Rev. Robert Kimble continued the legacy of growth and discipleship. He served as a pastor, counselor, teacher, and mentor, leaving an indelible mark on the Mount Beulah community. His vision of “A CHURCH WITH A MISSION TO MAKE DISCIPLES” still guides the church today. Even after Pastor Kimble’s passing in 1995, Mount Beulah Missionary Baptist Church has continued to evolve under the leadership of Rev. Calvin Lucas, Rev. Maurice Kelly, Rev. Jonathan Knight, and now, Pastor Troy B. Jemerson. Each pastor has brought their unique strengths and vision. They have guided the church through challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, always with a focus on serving the community and nurturing spiritual growth.
