“Arakpur Bagh Mochi,” whispered the wind, a name almost forgotten. Here in the heart of Delhi, the elegant Moti Bagh stands as a testament to time’s transforming touch. Moti Bagh, a name synonymous with stately residences and lush greenery, wasn’t always so refined. This residential haven, home to government officials and military personnel, traces its roots back to a much humbler origin. In the 1950s, the newly independent Indian government sought to create housing for its employees. They chose this area, then known as Mochi Bagh, a name derived from a garden, or “bagh,” and the area’s original name, Arakpur Bagh Mochi. Imagine the transformation! From agricultural lands and scattered houses to the planned community we see today. Moti Bagh is divided into North and South, each boasting parks and tree-lined streets. Think of the families who call this place home, the children playing in its parks, the daily routines unfolding within its walls. Moti Bagh also boasts a historical gem: the Gurudwara Moti Bagh Sahib. Built in 1783 by Sikh General Baghel Singh, this gurudwara stands as a reminder of the area’s rich Sikh heritage. The nearby Nanak Pura Gurudwara adds another layer of spiritual significance to the neighborhood. Conveniently located near the Dhaula Kuan metro station, and soon to be served by the Moti Bagh station on the Pink Line, Moti Bagh offers its residents easy access to the wider city. Markets, schools, a hospital, and even the National Rail Museum are all within easy reach. Moti Bagh is more than just a collection of houses. It’s a community woven into the fabric of Delhi, a place where history whispers through the leaves and the future unfolds beneath the shade of its many trees. A place called Moti Bagh.
