Rumors swirl around the Moroccan Lounge. Some say it was once a bordello. Others whisper of one of the oldest liquor licenses in Los Angeles. The truth remains elusive. But step inside the Moroccan Lounge and you’ll feel its rich history.

Built in 1885 this Moorish-accented structure has witnessed a colorful past. Many bars have occupied this space at 901 E 1st Street. Little Pedro’s a rowdy spot. Bordello a crimson-hued establishment. One Eyed Gypsy and the swank Osso restaurant also called this building home. Even a Bukowski-ish cop bar with a rumored brothel past existed here.

The Moroccan Lounge though is different. It’s a 250-person venue. A sophisticated space designed for music. A partition separates the full-service bar and restaurant from the intimate performance hall. This is no ordinary bar. This is a polished and expertly executed venue. The team behind New York’s Bowery Ballroom and Mercury Lounge also created this space. They worked closely with LA’s Teragram Ballroom.

The Moroccan Lounge isn’t just a place for big names. Grizzly Bear and Børns might perform. But you’ll also find emerging artists. Remo Drive Marlon Williams Blake Hazard and Neil Hilborn have all graced this stage. It’s a launching pad for musicians at every stage of their careers. A place where careers begin.

The Moroccan Lounge feels special. It’s more than just a bar. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of Los Angeles. It’s a place where music history unfolds. A space where the echoes of the past blend seamlessly with the vibrant energy of today. A place you won’t soon forget.
