Could you imagine a hill with a giant moon-shaped hole? That’s Moon Cave. It stands proudly near Yangshuo, China.
Moon Cave is more than just a rock. It’s an icon. Just as Elephant Hill represents Guilin, Moon Cave symbolizes Yangshuo. This natural wonder has captured imaginations for centuries.
The moon-shaped hole itself is massive. It measures 50 meters wide and 50 meters tall. Underneath the arch, you will discover stalactites in unique shapes. Some resemble Buddha’s warrior attendants. Others look like the goddess of the moon or jade rabbits.
Locals say one stalactite looks like the jade rabbit. According to legend, this rabbit lives on the moon with Chang’e. Viewing Moon Cave from different angles offers a unique experience. It appears as a full moon, half-moon, or crescent moon.
To reach the Moon Cave, there’s an “Appreciating Moon Path”. About 800 marble stairs lead to the cave entrance. Like most karst caves, Moon Cave features peculiar stalactites.
Adventurous visitors can even climb to the summit. It’s a further 10 to 15-minute climb on a rough path. The panoramic view is worth the effort. You’ll see mountains, rivers, fields, and houses.
Rock climbing enthusiasts will be thrilled. Moon Hill has 14 rock climbing routes on its northwest side. These routes offer challenges for all skill levels.
Moon Hill Village sits at the foot of the hill. The village offers refreshments. You can relax and enjoy the scenery. Li Village provides hotels and restaurants.
The best time to visit Moon Cave is autumn. The weather is drier and milder then. But if you climb in the summer, go early or late in the day.
Moon Cave is located eight kilometers south of Yangshuo. Minibuses from Yangshuo Bus Station will take you there. The journey offers beautiful views of the countryside.
The moon cave lets you see the sky. On sunny days, you’ll see blue skies and white clouds. On rainy days, mist rises from the valley.
Inside the cave, stalactites resemble Wu Gang and the Jade Rabbit. These figures add to the cave’s mystical charm. Moon Cave offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural significance. It is a great place to visit.
