Hidden in plain sight, Monza Bettola is more than just a future metro station. It’s a symbol of Milan’s ever-evolving urban landscape. Monza Bettola sits at the crossroads of Cinisello Balsamo and Monza. This unique location means it will bridge two different tariff zones. Riders will use the Mi1-Mi3 ticket, the more affordable option. Originally slated for completion in 2015, Monza Bettola faced numerous setbacks. Funding shortages stalled construction for two years. Despite efforts to catch up, the original Expo 2015 deadline was missed. Further complications arose with contractual issues at the Sesto Restellone station. This, coupled with delays at the former Auchan area, pushed the opening date to the summer of 2027. Monza Bettola will eventually become the northern terminus of the M1 line. It will replace Sesto 1° Maggio FS. It will also be an interchange with the M5, the purple line, once it extends to Monza. This ambitious project is backed by a substantial investment of 1.3 billion euros. The future hub promises much more than just transport connections. Plans include a vast parking area with 2,500 spaces. A new public square will feature a bus station serving 18 lines. A bicycle station with a repair shop will also be available. The existing Auchan shopping center will undergo a significant expansion. It will feature a multi-level gallery, creating a seamless link to the metro station. The gallery will house a variety of amenities. These include bars, restaurants, cultural spaces, and entertainment venues like a multiplex cinema and a planetarium. The project is also expected to generate around 1,000 new jobs. The station itself will offer all necessary services.
