The inscription once read “To the heroes who fell in the battles of Mărășești 1916-1918”.
General Gabriel Marinescu initiated the monument’s creation. He used his own funds. He also used funds from his soldiers. They wanted to honor the Regimentul 9 Vânători de Gardă. This elite regiment fought bravely. They were involved in fierce battles at Bazargic Amzacea Letca Nouă and Mărășești. The monument’s unveiling was a grand event. King Carol II of Romania himself attended.
