September 13th became Romania’s Firefighters’ Day. This commemorates their courage. The Monumentul Eroilor Pompieri remembers this pivotal moment. The front bronze plaque reads “To the fighters of September 13 1848 the grateful Romanian people MDCCCL 1900”. The back plaque details the battle. It mentions Captain Zăgănescu and Colonel Radu Golescu. Kerim Pasha commanded the Ottoman forces.

Unfortunately the Monumentul Eroilor Pompieri was removed in 1984. This was due to the construction of the Palace of Parliament. It was then relocated in 1990. Now it stands proudly near the JW Marriott Hotel. It remains a powerful reminder of the firefighters’ heroism. Their bravery secured their place in Romanian history.
