“Montanaso Lombardo a hidden gem.” That’s what they say. Montanaso Lombardo is a comune in the Province of Lodi. It sits in the Lombardy region of Italy. We are about 45 kilometers southeast of Milan. Also we are about 2 kilometers northeast of Lodi.

Montanaso Lombardo officially gained its name in 1862. The municipality of Arcagna joined Montanaso Lombardo in 1870. Imagine life in this growing community. Montanaso Lombardo has seen considerable construction recently. The population has also doubled.

Let’s explore Montanaso Lombardo’s past. In the 10th century, the Bishop of Lodi owned this land. Later it passed to various lords. Matteo Visconti used it as a strategic base in 1295. Montanaso was a part of Lodi during the Napoleonic era from 1809 to 1816. It regained its independence when the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto formed.

The Church of St. George the Martyr hosts a celebration. It honors the patron saint every third Sunday in October. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in the town square. Also noteworthy is the EPH thermoelectric power plant in Arcagna. The turbines run exclusively on natural gas. They produce a total power of 1440 MW.

Montanaso Lombardo’s coat of arms has symbols. A poplar tree stands for the green fields. A mill wheel shows the community’s work ethic. The silver and blue division is unique. The flag is blue and white.

Montanaso Lombardo is home to two soccer teams. G.S. Montanaso was founded in 1971. M04 was founded in 2004.
